52. University of Missouri at St. Louis
UMSL celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. They've got a ton of programs, cooperatives, and centers. My favorite is the Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center. There are two cakes on this campus - the other is inside the Jefferson/Mercantile Library, which is closed on Saturdays in the summer. We'll be back!
53. Concordia Seminary
Concordia Seminary has been in its current location in Clayton since 1926, though it was founded as an organization in 1839 by German immigrants. It's a small and pretty campus.
54. Cheshire Inn
The Cheshire is a fancy eatin' and stayin' place. In 2009, a couple of scenes of Up in the Air were filmed here, complete with fake snow.
55. Dogtown
This cake has little doggies on it. According to wikipedia, the term “Dogtown” was widely used in the 1800s by miners to describe a group of small shelters around mines. At that time, there was a collection of clay and coal mines in the area. There are 79 officially recognized neighborhoods in the city, and Dogtown is not one of them, but includes five others. Dogtown, as it is a traditionally Irish area, is famous for its annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
195 to go.
