Another great day for cakes! We picked up four in the Central West End.
34. Left Bank Books
Left Bank Books is an independent bookstore, founded in 1969. The staff is active in the local literary community, offering over 200 author events each year and a dozen book clubs. Love this cake! It's got eyeballs all over it, which is kind of creepy, but neat.
35. Chase Park Plaza
This cake is pretty. The gold paint sparkles, there are gems glued on, and the lower pedestal is painted to match the permanent architecture in the driveway. Chase Park Plaza is a fancy shmancy kind of hotel. Pretty sure the valets are tired of people like us being all up in their way.
36. Cathedral Basilica
Cathedral Basilica is celebrating its 100 years in 2014. The Pope visited in 1999 when he came to St. Louis. We didn't get to go in, but there is some beautiful artwork inside and out. See here for more pictures. The top layer of the cake is painted like stained-glass windows.
37. St. Louis Children's Hospital
This cake was my favorite of the day. It's got big movers digging tunnels at the base, then landscapes and a hot air balloon in the middle, and a night sky with a moon on top. Very nice.
St. Louis Children's Hospital was founded in 1879, making it the 7th oldest pediatric hospital in the U.S. It has been honored by US News and World Report among the top 10 Best Children's Hospitals for 11 consecutive years. They have collected quite the long list of additional distinctions.

The little animal sculpture park near the main entrance is cute, bright, and well-maintained.
213 to go.
