Nothing like a gorgeous Friday afternoon to collect some cakes. :) We played hooky (just a bit, really!) and picked up four. We did the remaining Delmar cakes and then hit Turtle Park.
12. Ruth Porter Mall Park
This was a fun cake!

It had this totally creepy face on top of it. She loved this.
According to stl250, Ruth C. Porter was a founding member of the Greater St. Louis Committee for Freedom of Residence.
The St. Vincent Greenway is part of a larger project called Great Rivers Greenway, whose mission is to build a network of bike and pedestrian path throughout the region. The St. Vincent Greenway runs north-south from Hanley to Forest Park.

13. Moonrise Hotel
The Moonrise is one of several venues owned by local entrepreneur Joe Edwards, who is also responsible for some of the attractions featured in a previous post. One of the attractions along the loop is the Planet Walk, which is a (massively) scaled down model of the solar system. Poor Pluto. :( It was pretty windy and there is no barrier between this cake and the driveway into the garage, so we grabbed and ran. The cake has an image of the International Space Station, and a Gemini capsule (I think?), among other things. This cake was my favorite, artwise, of the day. Because, well, science!

14. Regional Arts Commission
The St. Louis Regional Arts Commission is an organization that promotes and supports local artists and their work. Again, we didn't stay long. Cakelet was more interested in playing in the giant pile of elm fruits that had built up against the side of the building. We saw other cakers here. In fact, we are seeing more and more of them. More on that later.
15. Turtle Park
Turtle Playground (its official name) is no doubt one of the coolest places in StL. I'm glad they put a cake here, giving us an excuse to visit again. It's been a while, and she's a much better climber this time around.
Turtle park is (partly) the work of creative builder and sculptor Bob Cassilly. He is also responsible for City Museum, which we will be seeing later on this blog, and many other projects across the region and the country. Unfortunately, Cassilly died in 2011 while working on a project called Cementland in St. Louis.

Cake first, then, we play.
All that caking and climbing wore us out, so we visited the old Imo's not far from Turtle Park. Some say it's like glue and ketchup on a cracker. Those people are so, so wrong. Pineapple, anyone?
235 to go.
